Upper San Pedro River - Water Quality Impairments

Steam Dynamics part of the video begins at minute 16:13: "Stormwater as a tool for restoration". Here's is the video author's description: " This summarizes an E.Coli source characterization study for the Upper San Pedro River Watershed in southeastern Arizona. During my tenure with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), I prepared this video to highlight the significance of the Babocomari subwatershed on the water quality of the impaired San Pedro River and to encourage support for mitigation of upstream sources of E.coli via 319 (Clean Water Act) funding. Respective projects included promised cost-match from the Bureau of Land Management, and opportunities for cost-match through the Department of Defense. Given resource constraints within ADEQ, respective projects in the Babocomari are pending. This video also demonstrates the importance of ephemerals as it relates to downstream impacts of unregulated (non-point source pollution) activities on water bodies protected by the Clean Water Act, particularly E.Coli which is the number one impairment in the state. Ephemeral protections were lost under revisions to the Clean Water Act and are not covered in Arizona's State Water Protection Program. Although I've since retired from ADEQ, I'm sharing this background to support the next generation of hydrologists and environmental engineers interested in tackling these challenges. More videos on water quality impairments and mitigation strategies are coming soon-subscribe for updates. "
